Build Skills to Safely Navigate their Community and Access Services

Definition
Services that address the behavioral and emotional needs of young adults.
A service that helps individuals with disabilities and their families understand how employment and other life decisions impact benefits. Benefits counseling can address the fears and concerns many individuals and their families have about a reduction in benefits if they start work.
Is a strategy or instruction al method that promotes the teaching and use of academic and functional skills in the student’s natural environment. The setting, as well as the tasks performed in these settings, should be relevant to the student, facilitate independence and be age appropriate.
Opportunities and experiences provided to students to build their ability to effectively communicate convey, negotiate or assert his/her own interests and/or desires. These opportunities and experiences should be started at an early age as these skills are needed in education, workplace and community settings.
Teaches students the skills and concepts they need in order to travel independently and safely access their community, school and worksite
Education and system navigation support for parents with children with disabilities on the transition process and other related topics.
Specialized training program to help individuals who are blind or visually impaired become independent at home, in the community, and in employment. Training may be provided through the center-based program or the field-based program.
A set of approaches designed to assist a student to plan their life and supports
Development of life skills to support safety, decision making and skill development in a young adult’s life. Life skills include activities such as: laundry, cooking, financial literacy, reading, dressing, etc.
Education for individuals with disabilities to support their own personal development and empowerment
Will explore community services appropriate to the individual in their community, natural supports available to the individual, match and monitor community connections to enhance socialization and community access capability. Services are for those students with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
