Adams County is calling on the community to prioritize daily school attendance l in the county’s seven school districts. The county kicked off its Attendance Matters in Adams County campaign at the Waymire Dome on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The event was spearheaded by the Adams County Collaborative Management Program, which was created, “to support children, youth, and families in Adams County with a partnership that is focused on prevention, intervention, elevating family voices, and streamlining access to community resources.”
Colorado’s Commissioner of Education Susana Córdova spoke alongside Adams County leaders to highlight the importance of being in school every day while acknowledging some of the complex situations that prevent regular attendance.
“How are we supporting kids that feel like they don’t belong in school? How are we supporting families who are experiencing challenges with homelessness?” Córdova asked. “It’s one thing to say ‘Have a regular bedtime.’ It’s a very different thing if that bedtime is in a car.”
The state recently launched an attendance campaign called Every School Day Matters to provide districts with tools and support that will help schools and families prioritize being in school every day.
