Session 4 - Applying Operations to Solve Word Problems

Applying Operations to Solve World Problems - Grade 4

Step 4

Connect: Closing the Lesson (10 minutes):

Activity: Learning from Today

Activity: Learning from Today

Directions for Giving the Task:

  1. Pass out the Learning for Today sheet to each student and encourage them to reflect on the portfolio of work from their practice today.  They can select one key concept from the lesson to highlight and share.
  2. Each student will complete the topic question and then display a representation of the learning they completed.
  3. Emphasize the importance of reflecting on something new they learned that they can use in the future and show an example. This is the foundation of making connections and being able to synthesize learning.
  4. Students are welcome to share their Learning from Today in the display area from your earlier lesson practice.

Decorative question mark:

Why are students doing this/what are they getting out of it?

This activity intends to allow students to realize that they gained novel learning and that this learning can be applied in the future and reflected on from their work today.
