Goals & Standards - Equality and Inequality
Mathematical Goals
This toolkit will address solving one-variable equations and inequalities. This lesson will help you assess how well students understand the concepts of (6.EE.B):
- Reason about and solve one-variable equations and inequalities.
- Describe solving an equation or inequality as a process of answering a question
- Reason and solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations
- Investigate unknown values to form hypotheses, make observations, and draw conclusions.
- State precisely the meaning of variables used when setting up equations.

Mathematical Practice Standards
Math practice standards are thinking strategies for developing skills and habits in math learning. They focus on concepts to cultivate proficiency and prepare students for real-world applications.
“These practices rest on important ‘processes and proficiencies’ with longstanding importance in mathematics education.” The Math Practices describe ways in which students ought to engage with the content as they grow in their mathematical expertise.
